HAGERSTOWN — The City of Hagerstown’s plan to install security cameras at the Noland Village public housing complex has drawn mixed reviews from residents there. The Hagerstown City Council on Tuesday voted 4-0 to purchase six security cameras and their accompanying digital video recorders for $70,934. MORE than half of all bus shelters fitted with CCTV equipment will fail to record vandals causing havoc because they have no cameras inside. Transport body Centro has rolled out tools to house CCTV at the region’s bus shelters to crack down on crime, but bosses have admitted that cameras are not installed in all of them. Centro say they have only got 43 cameras to cover 100 sites

New CCTV for Trowbridge

A BRAND new CCTV system was officially unveiled in Trowbridge last week. The new upgraded system now has an additional six digital cameras, LCD flat screens to monitor the footage in both The Shires Shopping Centre and the town council offices and digital recording and control equipment as well as a wireless camera at the base of the Tesco footbridge. It brings the total number of CCTV cameras in public areas in the town to 25

SCARBOROUGH Council has defended the use of CCTV in the wake of criticism of its effectiveness in solving crime in other parts of the country. Earlier this week it was claimed that last year London’s cameras had solved only one crime for every 1,000 cameras per year

North Wales group scoops £800k for CCTV

THE streets of North Wales are set to be even safer after £815,000 was secured from the Welsh Assembly Government for a new state of the art CCTV system across the region. The windfall for a regional CCTV centre was landed after a delegation representing all six counties and North Wales Police visited officials at the Senedd in Cardiff a month ago.

Shops plagued by antisocial behaviour have declared victory in their bid to get security cameras installed in Lower Morden. Business in Grand Drive campaigned for the cameras after a spate of robberies and vandalism, and this week a spokesman for the group said they had hit their fundraising target. Since starting their bid for better security earlier this year, fundraising activities have included a party and auction at the Beverley pub on September 19 which brought in thousands of pounds.

The Melbourne City Council has revealed its latest tool to try to improve safety in the city. Lord mayor Robert Doyle has unveiled two security vehicles fitted with CCTV cameras that have 360 degree views. Councillor Doyle says they will patrol city hotspots over six months
