ToptenReviews recently anounced the 2009 annual the world’s top 10 antivirus softwares.
1. BitDefender
BitDefender is an antivirus software suite developed by Romanian-based software company SOFTWIN. It was launched in November 2001, and is currently in its eleventh version. BitDefender replaced SOFTWIN’s earlier AVX (AntiVirus eXpert) product range. The BitDefender group spin off from SOFTWIN in 2007. The BitDefender range includes antivirus products for home users, businesses, enterprise users and Internet service providers. Home editions support Microsoft Windows, Symbian OS, Windows Mobile and Mac OS X (Beta); business and enterprise editions support Microsoft Windows, Linux and FreeBSD. The current version of the Home/Home Office security suite includes antivirus, anti-spyware, firewall, e-mail spam filtering, backup, tune-up and parental control components. A free basic online scan is offered via the BitDefender website.
2. Kaspersky
Kaspersky Anti-Virus formerly known as AntiViral Toolkit Pro; often referred to as KAV) is an antivirus program developed by Kaspersky Lab. It is designed to protect users from malware and is primarily designed for computers running Microsoft Windows, though a version for Linux is available for business consumers.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus features include real-time protection, detection and removal of viruses, trojans, worms, spyware, adware and keyloggers, as well as detection and removal of rootkits. It also includes automatic updates and a tool for creating rescue disks. In addition, KAV prevents itself from being disabled without user permission.
According to AV-Comparatives, Kaspersky Anti-Virus rates highly amongst virus scanners in terms of detection rates, even despite the fact that the program has failed two Virus Bulletin tests in 2007.[citation needed] In addition, PC World awarded Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6 the Editor’s Choice in its 2007 anti-virus comparative.[citation needed]
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0 was “A-listed” by the prestigious UK PC journal PC Pro in late 2007, where it scored very highly for detection and removal of malware.[citation needed] PC Pro attribute this to “a combination of the software’s heuristic scanning and uncompromising approach to database updates.[citation needed] While many packages check for new virus signatures on a daily basis, Kaspersky runs to an hourly schedule, improving your PC’s chances of being immunized before an infection reaches it.”
3. Webroot Antivirus
Webroot Antivirus with Antispyware and Firewall is a solid product from Webroot Software. This competent defender earns our “TopTenREVIEWS Bronze Award” because it not only includes sophisticated antivirus components but also includes a full version of Spy Sweepr anti-spyware software. Both programs have been awarded all major industry awards and certifications and can dynamically alter themselves to fight emergin threats that hit the World Wide Web every second of the day.
The internet provides unlimited opportunities for communication, education, commerce and entertainment; however, it also provides opportunity to malevolent programmers and pranksters to distribute their viruses, spyware, worms, keyloggers and more. It is absolutely necessary that all internet connected computers have a serious, up-to-the-second form of protection, like Webroot’s Antivirus with Anti-Spyware.
Putting advanced antivirus software on your computer is not a sign of paranoia, it is smart. All computers that are connected to the internet without some sort of protection will acquire some kind of virus, spyware, adware or worse. Take proactive action and defend your personal information and your computer with a program like Webroot’s Antivirus with Anti-Spyware.
